Maybe she’ll actually give me an answer on the first try! But is that too much to ask? The place is pretty empty, so we choose a high table over by one of the windows. We are told to find a seat where ever we’d like. I have been less than excited about this destination, but upon entering, I become considerably more optimistic. Immediately, Davis says, “I like it! It’s very spacious.”

The walls have big mirrors and white and burgundy tiles. It’s clean (more than can be said of most of the previous places I’ve been on Centre street) and has a strange but smooth blend of modern lighting and vintage decoration. While the outside looks rather blasé, the inside gives an entirely different impression. The mysterious exterior of The Old Havanaīut my friend Davis and I are stepping into the mystery. The exterior looks as though the building was once a house that has since been converted into a restaurant, with small windows that only give passersby a brief glimpse into the interior. Most restaurants on Centre street, in fact all of the ones I have been to so far, have had large windows that give you an open view of the inside, allowing me to make all of the snap judgments I want. First off, the outside just does not give any indication of what the restaurant will be like. We tried the house dressing and it was great having it on the side to add as little/much as we wanted.The Old Havana Cuban Restaurant is something of an enigma from start to finish. Just as with Mura, the staff is really accommodating in that you can have the dressings on the side in case you don't like it. The build-your-own was also fun we chose octopus and shrimp tempura with both being a good portion and tasty. The former had a perfect amount of heat which we confirmed by our 9 year old daughter's aversion to it.

We also tried the spicy love poke bowl, and a build your own one. The broth for both was so flavorful and rich- definitely had a "wow" factor. We also have been going to nearby Naruto ramen for years, and found Mura's Tonkatsu Ramen and Shoyu Ramen to be so good that I'm predicting it might give Naruto a run for its money. We've been going to Mura for years, and were so excited to try their new ramen and poke location which is across the street from Mura.
